//-->ESIGNDUILDBCODE17PLUSPAINTCIRCUITSHOW TOWelcomeWith the holidays just aroundthe corner, it’s high time fora big, somewhat ambitiousproject – building your own sat-nav! Actually, there’s a little more to it thanthat, since we’re also going to be adding in amusic player and pulling in weather reportsusing a GPS module. And the Navit-poweredmaps will be voice-controlled too, of course. The great thing with this project is that youcan extend it however you like – for example, adding in video-playing functions to turn itinto more of a car infotainment system. We’vealso got some great guides to securing yourRaspberry Pi and powering-up older modelswith some clever optimisation tricks. Oh, andwe’re making J.A.R.V.I.S. as well… Have fun!Get inspiredDiscover the RasPicommunity’s best projectsExpert adviceGot a question? These days, withsmart navigation interfaces built into newcars, you don’t need to buy a TomTom to gethelp with directions. But if you’ve got a Raspberry Pi thenyou don’t even need to buy that – let alone a new car!In this project we will show you how to build yourown car computer using your Pi, a touchscreen like the9-inch model from SainSmart that we’re using here, anda few other bits like a GPS module and USB 3G modem.Your CarPi will be able to use open source navigationsoftware Navit to show your route map on-screen, plusspeech synthesis to read out directions, and it will alsobe able to check your location and give you weatherreports. It’ll work as a music player too, of course. It’s an ambitious project, but you will gain a solidunderstanding of custom-made interfaces, navigationsoftware and geolocation data, touchscreen calibration, speech synthesis and more. And you don’t have to usethe same SainSmart screen as us – you can use yourofficial Raspberry Pi 7-inch Touchscreen Display. Checkout the components list to the right, make sure you’ve goteverything and then let’s get started!THE PROJECTESSENTIALSSoldering ironFemale-to-femalejumper cablesAdafruit GPS UltimateBreakout BoardAdafruit GPS SMA-to-uFL adapter cableAdafruit GPS SMAantenna(3-5V, 28dB,5m)External USB soundcard(optional)USB 3G modem(optional)Touch Screen(e.g.SainSmart HDMI/VGA9-inch Touch ScreenLCD + Driver Board)12V Power supply forscreen(a car charger forlaptops with a USB portis ideal)LeftWe’re usingAdafruit’s excellentGPS Breakout kit here:bit.ly/1G8X2gw [ Pobierz całość w formacie PDF ]
